Ten Reasons to Choose a Staycation Over Heading Abroad

More and more people are choosing to shun their traditional summer holiday overseas and are instead choosing to stay right here in the UK and enjoy a ‘staycation’.

In fact, according to Visit England, 7.3 million Brits holidayed in the UK in the first quarter of 2016 alone, that’s a 10% rise on 2015!

But why exactly should you consider a staycation? Here are ten reasons!

Beautiful sights

It can be easy to forget just what sort of scenery we have right here on our doorstep in the UK.

Whether it be the rolling hills and lakes of the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands or the coastal villages of Cornwall, we really are spoiled for choice.

Bags of history

Lots of us enjoy learning a little bit about the history of a place when we visit but do you actually know that much about the UK?

Even the smallest towns and villages are dripping with history, with tales dating right back to the age of the Romans!

Less hassle

While travelling abroad can be great, it does come with a lot of hassle, especially if travelling with kids!

Staying here in the UK means you don’t have to worry about sorting out everyone’s passports, visas, insurance or getting any currency exchanged!

You can take your pets

One of the toughest things about going on holiday can be getting all the family together and setting off, without one crucial member!

Foreign holidays usually mean that your four-legged friends have to miss out on the fun, but that’s not the case with a staycation.

In fact, we spoke to Pure Leisure who own a number of holiday and leisure parks who told us that pets are actually actively welcomed at many parks around the country.

No baggage restrictions

One of the more frustrating aspects of holidaying abroad is the strict baggage allowances imposed by airlines, and the hefty fees if you don’t stick to them.

Thankfully you don’t have to worry about any of this with a staycation, and all you’ll have to think about is how you’re going to fit it all into your car.

Go at your own pace

Travelling in your own vehicle, at your own pace, gives you a sense of freedom that overseas holidays don’t, and you’ll be able to do whatever you want without having to rely on buses, trains or taxis.

It might not sound like that big of a deal but it really changes the holiday experience!

Better value

One of the biggest reasons people choose to stay in the UK for their holiday is that they can save a significant amount of money.

And with the weak value of the pound post-Brexit, the Guardian reported that the average European holiday costs a family of four £245 more than it would have done before the referendum.

Perfect for mini-breaks

While holidays overseas usually last a week or longer, staycations are perfect for smaller breaks, meaning less disruption to your working life.

For example, you could just take a Friday afternoon and Monday off work and enjoy a long weekend!

Great food and drink

While trying out some tapas, paella or other local delicacies is one of the best things about going on holiday, why do you have to miss out on great food and drink here in the UK?

With the money you’ve saved on paying for flights, why not treat yourself to a swanky meal?

Beautiful beaches

While we might not always get the weather to truly appreciate them, the UK is actually home to some incredible beaches.

Right down from Cornwall, all the way up the top of Scotland, there are beaches that you probably would never have thought existed in the UK.
